He is involved in one of the most interesting property developments I have seen in Croatia for which he has the exclusivity for English speaking markets. The enormous demand for traditional stone houses has meant that all the best examples have been snapped up or are priced accordingly. The other downside is that there is a considerable cost in refurbishing them properly to modern standards to enable comfortable living or high rental occupancy. It can actually cost more to rebuild something than to start from scratch and original houses invariably suffer from legacy wiring and plumbing. This new developer has come up with an interesting solution. He carefully finds stunning plots of lands with great views, but with the room for a spacious house and a swimming pool . He then proceeds to build a modern house in terms of utilities, services and room sizes but in a traditional style faced using only recycled original stones, lintels, oak beams etc. Every stone brings with it the soul of another building. The final effect is a house that with a few years weathering to wash off the newness will look like a house that has been in position for a hundred years. The interiors are as stunning as the exteriors, with terra-cotta floors and typical Istrian stone fireplaces. He employs craftsmen who are taught in the old style of house construction, together with technicians installing utilities to DIN standards. The end result -the best of both worlds-the old and the new.
