See link to Owners' Website at very bottom of page. FULLY AIR CONDITIONED Detached Traditional Villa for 2. Sole use of Villa, garden, pool etc. Fly with BUDGET Airlines. Ryanair, Thomson. Easy drive from airports at PULA (Cro), TRIESTE (It), VENICE (It), RIJEKA (Cro), ZAGREB (Cro), or LJUBLJANA (Slo). This one bedroom traditional old stone villa, with its private pool, hidden in the beautiful green Istrian countryside, has been lovingly restored, retaining numerous traditional features, such as beamed ceilings, Istrian open fireplace, tiled and solid wood floors and staircase, hardwood lintels, honey coloured open-faced Istrian stone walls, spacious covered 1st floor (upstairs) terrace with traditional Mediterranean tiles. It is the perfect romantic hideaway, set in tranquil surroundings on the top of a ridge, amongst the vines and olive trees; this area is often likened to Tuscany. Thanks to the enviable location of the house, spectacular panoramic views are to be found in every direction. The living room has been specifically placed on the 1st floor (upstairs) to optimise the impact of the (near to 360 degree) breathtaking views. From Villa Klarici you can see Motovun, Oprtalj and Draguc, with their ancient campaniles, and Lake Butoniga sparkling to the west with the backdrop of Mount Ucka, amongst many other landmarks. The living room leads out to our large covered Istrian terrace, which is a delightful shaded outdoor space and becomes an extra living and dining area in the summer. It faces South towards Motovun and the truffle forests, and all the stunning views and overlooks the private pool, the lavender-scented garden and the purpose-built barbecue with table and chairs. The raised pool - 5m x 3m - is accessed via wide stone steps and is set into a surround of Istrian stone and has a sunbathing platform. The villa itself offers spacious air conditioned accommodation with fully equipped kitchen (downstairs), spacious living room with Istrian fireplace (upstairs), cosy bedroom with large continental bed (downstairs)and modern shower room (downstairs). Should the 2 guests require separate sleeping arrangements, this can be arranged. Please contact us for details. Sorry, this villa is not suitable for children or pets. With regard to the abundant wildlife here, we have personally seen the following from the garden: hoopoes calling in the spring, owls hooting in the evenings, woodpeckers, swallowtail and many other butterflies in the lavender, buzzards mewing to each other overhead on a warm afternoon, red legged partridges, swallows wheeling over the garden and the occasional hare running through the fields, amongst many other birds and animals. In summer 2008 we were fascinated by the brightly coloured European bee-eaters, as they perched on the wires close to the house, before darting off to catch an insect. In 2009 our guests were lucky enough to experience their own 'Spring Watch' when a pair of great tits (not as exotic but charming just the same) raised their large family on the wall of the upstairs terrace. The locals talk about the wild boar that live in the nearby forests; thankfully they tend not to venture out as far as our villa! In spring and summer the fields on the surrounding hills are a riot of wildflowers, including orchids that are now only rarely seen in the UK. The heady scent that blows across from these fields is delightful. This area of inland Istria is renowned for its gastronomy and viniculture, reminiscent of, and as highly regarded as some Italian terroirs. Truffles are hunted locally and are featured widely in the local restaurants, much more affordably than in the UK or elsewhere. There are several award winning restaurants in the area around Villa Klarici, also many excellent family run restaurants and inns (konobas). Truffle fairs to celebrate the truffle, are held in September, October and early November in Buzet and Livade, both locations close to the villa. Villa Klarici is perfectly located in inland Istria to provide a central base for exploring, either east or west coasts - just 25 minutes drive. Car Hire or your own transport is essential. Disability Access. This is a renovated traditional old stone villa and was unfortunately not built or designed for access by those with disabilities. However, all facilities for a person's basic needs (kitchen, shower room, bedroom) are on the GROUND FLOOR. Please note the sunbathing platform/pool areas are accessed via stone steps and the pool itself is accessed by a ladder. The garden has traditional stone paving and gravel.
