Villa Wardlaw can be found on Dalmatia's sunniest, most popular island of Hvar. Recently voted by Conde Nast Traveller as one of the ten most beautiful islands in the world. The island boasts rich cultural and historic heritage; original gastronomy, beautiful beaches and bays, crystal blue sea with more sunny days than any place in Europe!

Located in Stari Grad old town, which is reputedly the oldest town in all of Croatia. Originally settled by Greeks from the island of Pharos in 285BC the town has a rich archaelogical history with many important Greek and Roman ruins.

The villa is located right in the centre of the oldest part of the town which is largely pedestrianised with pretty cobbled stone alleys and large open piazzas.

Comprising of four double bedrooms and a large double bunk room with 2 bunks, two bathrooms, large private walled garden with balconies overlooking old town and mountains.

Come and enjoy the Dalmatian sun, local hospitality and crystal clear waters of the Adriatic.

On the sports front there are challenging mountain bike trails, sailing, fishing and scuba diving. Throughout the summer there are choir recitals, and musical performances from artists around the world.

The town is also home to some of the best restaurants in Croatia including Antika, and Jurin Podrun who offer comprehensive menus covering fresh fish as well as many international dishes. There are also more than 10 cafes situated along the town riva where you can while away the days drinking cappucinos.

There is also a great beach bar located at Laterna beach where you can sip cocktails whilst watching the sun set slowly into the blue of Stari Grad bay.

Explore the streets and piazzas where you will find many important archaelogical ruins. Remains of Hellenistic houses and street are visible today in the remetine Garden behind the Church of St John, and in the plain outside town. There is Roman mosaic in Srednja street, the house in Vaganj. The most valuable find from Roman times (2nd Century) can seen in a number of points in town. The Parish Chruch of St Stephan (Sveti Stepan) on the main square was built in 1605. St John's Church (Sveti Ivan) is directly opposite the entrance to the villa and was first mentioned in 1332 and is the oldest sacred building in the town. It was built on the site of an ancient temple, its ground plans and teh apse are Romanesque but its present appearance is Gothic. The Dominican Monesty is also nearby and was founded in 1482, and was fortified in the 16th Century. The monastery has an archaelogical museum with a collection of ancient objects, stone monuments and a gallery of paintings.

EXPLORE THE ISLAND AND NEIGHBOURING ISLANDS

It is no wonder Conde Naste voted Hvar Island one of the 10 most beautiful islands in the world. It is renowned for its endless lavender and olive fields and also boats some of Croatia's best wineries.

A short drive or moped ride to nearby villages and you can explore the beautiful town villages of Pitvea, or Zavala and Sveten Nedela on the the northern side of island. And of course, you must visit Hvar Town which is just 15 minutes drive from Stari Grad. It is St Tropez of Croatia and is known as the party capital of Dalmatia attracting superyachts and celebrities throughout the summer months.

You could also take a day trip to the beach Zlatni Rat at Bol on the neighbouring island of Brac. You can also access a private beach at Amfora Hotel in Hvar town but you need to pay – services include a recliner and umbrella, drinks, cocktails and food on order, and for extra pampering highly recommended massages.

On the northern side of the island you will find some amazing beaches located in Zavala and Svetne Nedilja. These can be accessed only through driving through a man carved tunnel which links both sides of the island.
